We came across this organization by chance when viewing another post online, and it must have been meant to be. It’s hard to read about the struggles people have to go through on a daily basis just to get drinkable water. Teenage girls are being raped on the way to village wells; children are dying before their fifth birthday from diseases contracted from drinking contaminated water. It really puts things into perspective when you start complaining about the problems you’ve faced today as an American.
When learning about the straws WATERisLIFE provide, we knew right away this is a charity we want to help support. They have designed straws that can provide filtered water for a person for an entire year, and each one only costs $10. Yes, you read that right. For the amount you spent on your lunch today, you could have provided filtered water to someone in need for an entire year. We decided this would be the perfect project for us for May, so we’ve donated enough to provide 10 straws. Here’s more information about the Straw from the WATERisLIFE website, or, to learn more about all this organization is doing to help people around the globe, visit their website.
The WATERisLIFE Straw is a small, portable filtration device that provides pure, clean drinking water whenever it is immersed into a water source (just like a normal straw). This Straw, however, saves lives on a daily basis by filtering out waterborne diseases – which accounts for over 6,500 deaths every day – 5,000 of those being children.
This revolutionary Straw has proven to be effective against waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, guinea worm, and diarrhea, and removes particles as small as fifteen microns.
WATERisLIFE continues to work with organizations and partners to provide straw filters to those in need. Each Straw costs only $10 and provides a year’s worth of clean water for one person.
