April is Child Abuse Prevention Month – To honor this, Change Through Giving chose to do a teddy bear drive during the month of April to benefit Kids House of Seminole, Inc. Kids House operates the Children’s Advocacy Center at the Wayne Densch Family Trauma Center in Sanford. They provide all necessary services for children who are victims of child abuse, from report and investigation through treatment and prosecution, in a friendly and non-threatening environment. Law enforcement, judicial, medical, social work and mental health professionals come together as a multi-disciplinary team to help children and their families.
We have to admit, we sure had a blast collecting all the adorable teddy bears that people so generously donated! Knowing that our efforts will provide simple snuggly comfort to a hurting child was absolutely priceless. Child abuse is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 4. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Violence is a way of life; without help, the abused become the abusive. At Kids House of Seminole, children find help, are given hope, and begin healing along with their family.
