Homeless Children of Orange & Seminole

Change Through Giving members were moved by a story of Central Florida homeless children featured on a “60 Minutes” episode and also by a follow-up article in our local newspaper.  Did you know there are a documented 1.5 million homeless children in our nation?  The high number of home foreclosures is forcing families to be evicted and to live in motels, cars and even splitting up between friends and relatives to keep a roof over their heads.  Nearly two out of five homeless in Central Florida are children, most of them under the age of eight.

We donated gift cards to Orange and Seminole County Public School liaisons to distribute to the homeless children in their school districts.  Here are some ideas for you If you would like to like to get involved to help homeless  children:

  • Reach out to your local school districts to see what you can do to help
  • Bring non-perishable food to schools to distribute
  • Provide gift cards for food and gas

Let’s  all help to educate people about the issue of  children walking the halls in schools hungry and carrying with them the stress of being homeless.
