It’s hard to believe it, but we have winter in Central Florida. Everybody get out their favorite boots and jackets, scarves and gloves. Perfect time to enjoy hot cocoa! But what about homeless people?
This year, the ladies of Change Through Giving teamed up with FOCUS group (Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve) to prepare and serve hot meals and sort and distribute toiletries, shoes and clothing for homeless people in downtown Orlando. We were able to donate much needed blankets for those cold nights as well as a variety of clothing items.
We know we were not able to help all the homeless people out there, but we feel better that some of them were able to have a hot meal that evening and get much needed items.

Here is a more detailed information about “Feeding the Homeless”Project.
Dear Julia, thank you so much for wanting to come out to help.
Other Orthodox Christians will be at the parking lot of St. George on the 28th to serve the homeless. I would encourage your group to get there between 4:30 and 4:45. You can park on the street, although you should bring quarters for the meters. You’re right, there is not much room in the parking lot. Ray mentions a lot adjacent to the church. I don’t know how that works.
We set the tables up between 4:30 and 4:45, then start serving at 5:00. A few times, when the weather looked bad, we have started serving earlier, and there is no way to alert volunteers about this. If you see that the weather is bad, and if you are available, you might want to come early, or call me at 321-303-4749. We need help setting up tables, serving, cleaning up, putting away the tables, and washing dishes (inside the St. George kitchen).
I look forward to meeting you on the 28th. Can you give me an idea of how many people are coming? I have FOCUS t-shirts that I can bring for them. Anne van den Berg
